Your own worth is valued by the amount of happiness and satisfaction you are able to garner for yourself with your own actions. Before being a servant to others, learn to be your own master. Try to understand what pleases you as a master and make yourself work towards it. By striving to gain artificial, short-term praise and appreciation of others in this hollow world, you are living in a fool’s paradise because all those people who are praising you today, will not stand by you always – you are a star in their eyes till you satisfy their personal motives, be it business or pleasure. The day your utility diminishes for them, all your qualities which they praise today, will become your flaws. Then why should we care about appreciation of such people? Winning your own appreciation is far more worth than appreciation of the entire world put together. Therefore we need to work to please our ownself and not others.
